  • A Russian soldier stands guard in front of an S300 surface-to-air missile battery like those delivered to Syria after a September Israeli strike during which a Russian aircraft was accidentally downed

The Syrian government was forced to retract a claim its forces had shot down an Israeli fighter jet in its territory, a short time after Tel Aviv said none of its planes had disappeared.

The sources said this was the first major attack since Israel scaled down its attacks in Syria after the accidental shooting down of a Russian surveillance plane over two months ago.

Israel has bombed the al-Kiswah area for allegedly hosting Iranian missile bases, according to the report.

State TV reported that Syrian air force fired anti-air missiles in response to the strike, adding that all enemy targets were destroyed and that the foreign attack failed to achieve its intended goals, reports Xinhua news agency.

The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the targets were weapon warehouses.

"Israeli forces bombarded for an hour", Observatory chief Rami Abdel Rahman said.

Trump has also threatened to impose tariffs on the remaining $267 billion worth of Chinese products imported a year ago . In the here and now, May will use the G20 to sell Britain's post-Brexit trading future outside the EU.

Note that the official confirmation of this information from the Israeli authorities did not arrive yet. The reports did not say what that missile's target might have been.

Israel and the USA have even put pressure on Russian Federation, another close ally of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in the war against terrorist groups, to chase Iran out of Syria.

The accidental downing of the Russian transport aircraft by Syrian ground batteries during an Israel air strike on September 17 killed 15 service personnel and prompted Moscow to significantly upgrade Syrian air defences.

Russian Federation subsequently upgraded Syrian air defenses with the delivery of the advanced S-300 system, which Damascus had said last month would make Israel "think carefully" before carrying out further air raids.

It is not yet clear whether the S-300s were among the air defense systems used in the Thursday night counterattacks.

Israel has repeatedly targeted military positions in Syria, including Kisweh.
