National Football League deadline heats up with Golden Tate, Demaryius Thomas trades

The Denver Broncos traded nine-year veteran Demaryius Thomas to the Houston Texans on Tuesday. Thomas, who in Denver was averaging 50.3 receiving yards per game with three scores on the season, had been given a rating of 2.0.

The Broncos will now look to rookies Courtland Sutton and DaeSean Hamilton along with first-year player Tim Patrick to carry the load at wide receiver.

Thomas, a nine-year National Football League veteran, five-time Pro Bowl selection (2012-16) and former Super Bowl Champion (50), has played in 125 games (111 starts) and 10 postseason contests in his career (2010-18).

And Tuesday, after eight-and-a-half seasons, 125 regular-season games, a Super Bowl ring, 662 catches and 60 touchdowns, it became official that Thomas had done his best to train his replacements. According to ESPN, the teams will also swap seventh-round picks. And while Thomas will replace Fuller in the role he played alongside DeAndre Hopkins and Keke Coutee in the offense, it's fair to wonder whether the ninth-year pro will be capable of matching Fuller's production.

Thomas had one year left on his current contract, but his future with the Broncos after this season was decidedly uncertain because he was set to count $17.533 million against the salary cap next season.

Cavaliers tickets going for as cheap as $2.00 on resale sites
Cleveland ultimately dropped the game by the scored of 102-86 and has been outscored by a combined 58 points in four games. After a awful start to the 2018-19 season , the Cleveland Cavaliers' circumstances might have just gone from bad to worse.

Below are grades for both the Texans and the Broncos in the Thomas trade.

One of these apparently included wide receiver Demaryius Thomas. And sitting at 3-5 at the season's halfway point, Elway said the time is now.

It won't take long for Thomas to get a chance to go up against his former teammates. Second, and perhaps more importantly, the message the Broncos received yesterday was that, in at least some small way, their front office is cashing it in on 2018.

The NFL trade deadline is set for 4 p.m., so there's still time for a move to occur. Seeing NFL teams, from real contenders like the Rams and Eagles to aspiring contenders like the Texans and Redskins, making deals is pretty damn cool.
