  • The duke and duchess each performed a “hongi” with Maori elders in which they pressed noses together to share a breath

The sessions seem to have paid off for Meghan, who remained cool as a cucumber while walking down the aisle, accompanied halfway by her father-in-law, Prince Charles.

Fair enough - the royal couple are greeted by crowds of people everywhere they go so no surprise that Meghan feels like she wants to guard her stomach.

"I'm sure a nanny was discussed too, but the main focus for her was on health and weight", the friend claimed.

'Meghan said "come here" before hugging me'.

Prince Harry spoke with the young Auckland boy for around a minute.

But Meghan is hot on her heels.

Cape Town - The Duchess of Cambridge has had a seven-year head-start as a royal on the Duchess of Sussex - and Kate's experience clearly counts in her favour as she's once again been declared the "most powerful royal influencer" in the United States.

"Thank you very much", Catherine told her. "Hugs are very important".

"We're meeting little Kiwis, we're meeting big Kiwis, being treated to your fantastic food, culture and sporting activities - well, if you can call welly-wanging or gumboot throwing a sport", he said. "How long did it take?"

The cheers and screams from the walkabout were a sharp contrast to the sombre moments previously as the Sussexes paid their respects at the war memorial.

The couple were then shown the UK War Memorial, created to show the trunks of the Royal Oak and Pohutakawa trees intertwining to form a single canopy.

Earlier in the day, the couple had received a traditional welcome to New Zealand when they rubbed noses with Maori elders on the grounds of Government House.

The duchess's team - the reds - emerged victorious after she landed her boot a good metre closer to the target than the duke.

The Duchess' pounamu koura was gifted to her by Governor General Dame Patsy Reddy. It was the first time the pair had met in person.

The royals performed a hongi - or nose rub - with Professor Sciascia and Mrs Higgins as the Royal New Zealand Air Force band played.

On Monday, the couple will travel to Abel Tasman National Park for a series of engagements about conservation.
