White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders held a rare press briefing today to insist President Donald Trump did not mock Christine Blasey Ford, Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh's accuser, the previous night at a MS campaign rally.

He called Democrats who are against Kavanaugh "evil people" who want to "destroy people".

Kavanaugh was responding to accusations from a California professor, Christine Blasey Ford, that he sexually assaulted her at a house party when they were teenagers in the 1980s.

Susan Collins said they were "just plain wrong", and Alaska Sen. She would not say if they would affect her vote. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. Upstairs, downstairs - where was it?

"I had one beer - that's the only thing I remember", Trump said. 'Where was the place?' I don't remember.

The court's nine justices are appointed for life and have the final say on some of the most contentious issues in U.S. public life, from abortion, to gun control, to voting laws. "It's kind of appalling". "Wholly inappropriate and entirely unacceptable" chimed in Murkowski.

"An FBI supplemental background investigation that did not include an interview of Dr. Christine Blasey Ford- nor the witnesses who corroborate her testimony - can not be called an investigation", Ford's attorneys wrote. Kavanaugh has denied the claims.

President Donald Trump's mockery of Christine Blasey Ford sparked an immediate backlash Wednesday among two critical Republican swing votes on the nomination of Supreme Court hopeful Brett Kavanaugh, with Sens.

Even Trump ally Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., said at an event hosted by The Atlantic magazine: "I would tell him, knock it off".

Sources previously told Fox News that Senators and some aides would be able to start looking at the FBI's background investigation on Thursday morning and that Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, and committee member Sen. While some senators from both parties have said they'd like at least a summary of the findings to be released, Senate procedures call for such checks to be kept confidential.

Senator Joe Manchin, one of the few Democrats who remain undecided, said the Federal Bureau of Investigation report would be instrumental in his decision.

Trump's fellow Republicans control the Senate by a 51-49 margin.

But McConnell, who has fervently supported Kavanaugh from the beginning, vowed that, despite Democrats' complaints, the Senate will vote by the end of the week.

So far, no Republicans have said they would vote against Kavanaugh.

Opposition among Americans to Kavanaugh has increased since last week's hearing, Reuters/Ipsos polling data showed on Wednesday.

"It's possible that they have conflicting accounts, I hope that's not the case", Corker said.

The two committee Democrats who did not sign the letter were Senators Chris Coons of DE and Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota.

In a Twitter post on Wednesday, Trump did not back away from his rally comments, instead attacking Kavanaugh's Democratic critics. Trump said when he goes to political rallies, which are organized by Republicans, he sees that voters are angry at the "vicious and despicable" way Democrats are treating his nominee.

White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders also defended Mr Trump, telling a press briefing that the President was not concerned the comments may have endangered the votes of key senators.

But at his rally on Tuesday, the president dismissively imitated Ford's appearance on Capitol Hill in an effort to cast doubt on her testimony.

"It is inconceivable that the FBI could conduct a thorough investigation of Dr Ford's allegations without interviewing her, Judge Kavanaugh, or the witnesses we have identified in our letters to you", Dr Ford's lawyers said in a letter to FBI Director Christopher Wray.
