Trump calls Woodward book 'a con on the public'

  • Bob Woodward's new book has chief of staff John Kelly calling President Trump an'idiot who has'gone off the rails

"Sean", Mattis said, according to an excerpt of the book, "Fear", obtained by CNN.

While there he shared his thoughts on the New York Times op-ed piece written by an anonymous White House senior official who claims to be part of a "resistance".

The Woodward book also details the debate within Trump's legal team about sitting down for an interview with Justice Department special counsel Robert Mueller, who is investigating the Russian attack on the 2016 election.

In one example, former chief economic adviser Gary Cohn reportedly took a letter off Trump's desk to keep him from signing it because Cohn feared the consequences for the USA position in Asia.

Mr Trump lashed out at the author of the anonymous piece - and at the "dishonest" Times. "You know I'm very open to you".

Woodward is known for being involved in the takedown of President Nixon in the infamous Watergate scandal.

"To be clear, ours is not the popular "resistance" of the left", the "senior administration official" wrote in the op-ed, titled I Am Part of the Resistance Inside the Trump Administration and published by the newspaper on Wednesday.

Mattis also reportedly had to rein in US policy after a phone call in which the president supposedly ranted about wanting to "f*cking kill" Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

Trump earlier on Wednesday tweeted the book had already been refuted by Defense Secretary James Mattis and Chief of Staff John Kelly-both quoted in the book as trashing Trump or not following orders-and said it was a "shame" books could be made up.

The 26-year-old was then eliminated from the show, clearly heartbroken by not being able to continue things with Becca. He was sent home and came into this summer's Bachelor in Paradise still wounded and conflicted about commitment.

President Trump is facing a test to his presidency unlike any faced by a modern United States leader, claimed the writer, who The New York Times, in a tweet, identified as a he. White House chief of staff John Kelly denied calling the president an idiot.

Late Tuesday (September 5), Trump tweeted quote "Woodward is a Dem operative?" Democrats and their allies in the media understand the president's policies are working and with success like this, no one can beat him in 2020 - not even close.

Mattis dismissed the book as "a uniquely Washington brand of literature", and Trump has called it "total fiction".

"That is why many Trump appointees have vowed to do what we can to preserve our democratic institutions while thwarting Mr. Trump's more misguided impulses until he is out of office", the alleged White House official wrote a day after Trump and his aides challenged the narrative of Bob Woodward's new book critical of Trump. "So I have another bad book coming out".

Moments later, Trump bashed the New York Times in off-the-cuff comments delivered at the White House in which he called the essay "anonymous, meaning gutless".

The reporter, who said the book was based on hundreds of hours of interviews, had a brief retort: "It's going to be accurate, I promise".

"It's really too bad, because nobody told me about it, and I would've loved to have spoken to you", Trump declared.

Trump suggested that one of the lone ways Woodward may have been able to reach him was to get in touch with his scheduler, 27-year-old Madeleine Westerhout.
