With US sanctions set to begin, where next for Trump's Iran strategy

The 2015 agreement curbed Iran's nuclear program in return for lifting most worldwide sanctions.

Note, the U.S. authorities on Monday, August 6, restore the first part of the sanctions against Iran in connection with the release of the American side of the Joint comprehensive plan of action. Since the United States withdrawal from the Iran deal, Iran's currency has taken a nosedive, soaring up to around 120,000 rials to a dollar.

Iranians are asking why the national wealth has been squandered overseas on Hezbollah, and in Syria and Gaza, and they want the government to think of their own people first.

Despite opposition from European allies, Trump in May pulled the United States out of a 2015 deal between world powers and Tehran under which global sanctions were lifted in return for curbs on Iran's nuclear programme.

Pompeo said it would require "enormous change" by Iran to get out from under renewed USA sanctions.

It's not inconceivable a meeting on the sidelines could occur then - Tehran will be looking anxiously to a November deadline for oil buyers to stop purchasing Iranian crude. The renewed sanctions target the trade of automobiles, coal, gold and other metals, as well as Iranian purchases of USA dollars.

"Iran, and its economy, is going very bad, and fast!" he said in the same missive.

In hundreds of such videos that have surfaced on the internet, people are seen crashing into poles and tripping on potholes. A Florida man's attempt at the " In My Feelings " challenge went wrong when he was hit by a vehicle during the stunt.

The problem is: "What next?" one of the European diplomats said, referring to concerns that the U.S.is eyeing regime change as the sanctions' end goal.

Takht Ravanchi, who was involved in more than two years of nuclear talks with 5+1 nations, stressed that Europe's failure to neutralize the upcoming sanctions will be tantamount to "negotiations for negotiations".

Or the regime could start to address what America calls its "malign influence" in the region, including its support to Syrian President Bashar Assad and threats to shut down the strategic Strait of Hormuz, a vital shipping lane for global oil supplies.

Protests that began in Iran on Tuesday afternoon continued across the country in Isfahan, Shiraz, Mashhad, Karaj, Sari, Bandar Abbas, and Ahvaz.

"The slogans in this protest were against the Islamic Republic of Iran and not about high inflation", the deputy of Fars governor for security, social and political affairs Hadi Pajohezh, told IRNA.

The agency reported all protests had taken place without official permission and were subsequently broken up by police.

This past week, though, Trump said he'd be willing to meet with Iranian leaders without any preconditions.
