The Post cited "intelligence gathered by USA agencies" as evidence that North Korean officials planned to try to fool the U.S.by making a show out of destroying 20 nuclear warheads while they kept dozens.

"Welcome home", Vice President Mike Pence said Wednesday to begin the "honorable carry" ceremony for the return of 55 transfer cases believed to contain the remains of American service members lost in what has been called the "Forgotten War".

"Based upon previous experiences with this type of turnover from the [Democratic Republic of North Korea], most of the remains will take many months to a few years to identify", an official added. "Other U.S. service members were captured and placed in prisoner-of-war camps, where many succumbed to starvation, exposure, and torture".

All Americans welcome the return of remains from the Korean War.

Kim Jong-un agreed to "denuclearise" North Korea. Experts say the North likely wants a declaration of the end of the Korean War as part of U.S. security assurances.

The lack of progress has been a source of concern for many observers, especially as worldwide sanctions are beginning to ease and news reports indicate that North Korea is continuing its nuclear and ballistic programs.

"We are in serious danger of stalling and to me that's the main challenge now", he said.

According to the United States official who spoke to Reuters, one photo showed a truck and covered trailer similar to those the North has used to move its ICBMs.

Cutting off oil and fuel to the North would require enforcement primarily by China, which supplies most of North Korea's energy needs, but also by Russian Federation, which delivers some oil to Pyongyang.

In a joint declaration after the June 12 summit, the North Korean leader "reaffirmed his commitment" to work towards the "denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula".

Pompeo, at the Senate hearing last week, sought to assure lawmakers that the disarmament talks with North Korea remained on track and that the effort to dismantle the country's nuclear arsenal was just getting underway.

An initial "field forensic review" shows that the "remains are what North Korea said they were", John Byrd, director of analysis for the U.S. Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA), told reporters in South Korea, according to Reuters.

The Rodong Sinmun, North Korea's official party newspaper, accused Seoul of "wasting time" waiting for sanctions to be lifted only after denuclearization is completed, without "taking a single action" on its own.

They will encourage the United States and Pyongyang "to continue working towards the realisation of lasting peace and stability on a denuclearised Korean Peninsula", according to a draft copy of the chairman's statement obtained by AFP.

American officials have repeatedly stated that they will offer no sanctions relief to North Korea until the country completely, irreversibly ends its illegal nuclear weapons program.

The remains will go to a lab in Hawaii run by the military agency that identifies missing servicemen and women from past conflicts.

In reality, North Korea is one of the world's most impoverished countries and arguably the most repressive regime in the world.

USA spy agencies have recently seen satellite photo evidence that North Korea is building at least two intercontinental ballistic missiles at the factory where it created its first missile that it said could reach the United States.

North Korea got respect, trade, and weapons, and now they appear to be going on as if Singapore put no restrictions on them.
