New Gmail feature to allow users to send 'confidential' emails

  • Gmail Brings Confidential Emails to Mobile

While the new confidential mode may be useful for some users, Google cautions it is not meant to completely prevent sensitive information from being revealed. This will allow users to send emails and attachments with confidential information therein, coupled with expiration dates as well as the ability to revoke access to the content whenever they want. The feature restricts recipients from downloading, forwarding, printing, or copying anything in the email if the sender sets it up that way. Passcodes can either be through a separate email (users not using Gmail) or through an SMS (just keep in mind to enter their mobile # when you turn it on). Find your email set to self-destruct in the Sent folder, open it, and tap "Remove Access". The company today launched Confidential Mode for emails on Gmail, letting users protect the emails they send. This is a server-side update, so you don't need to go looking for an update in the Google Play Store. After enabling the feature, you can then choose the settings you would like to use.

To enable the option on your computer, users will need to use the new Gmail interface.

If they want to turn confidential mode on they should press the button in the top right-hand corner that is shaped like a stack of three bullet points. Another minor downside might be if you don't check your email a lot, and then the message expires before you've seen it. From here, tap compose confidential mode (it's the padlock icon with a clock on it). For non-Google email accounts, the recipient will get a link to open the email in a secure web portal.

Putting your email in Confidential Mode only takes a few steps. With apps like BHIM, when you enter the payments mode and take a screenshot, it either gives an error that you can't take screenshots, or on some phones it captures complete black photos.

Open the mail sent via Confidential mode, scroll down to the bottom of the screen.
