Man steals aircraft from Seattle airport, fighter jet scrambled

#BREAKING Alaska Airlines says it is aware of an incident involving an unauthorized take-off of a Horizon Air plane from Seattle-Tacoma International Airport.

"We believe it was taken by a single Horizon Air employee and no other passengers or crew were on board", she said.

Video taken by a bystander showed the passenger airplane making an unlikely upside-down aerial loop, then flying low over Puget Sound before crashing into the sparsely populated Ketron Island in the northwestern U.S. state of Washington.

"Doing stunts in air or lack of flying skills caused crash into Island", the sheriff said on Twitter.

Alaska Airlines, the parent company, confirmed that its Horizon Air Q400 "had an unauthorized takeoff from SeaTac around 8pm has gone down near Ketron Island in Pierce County, WA".

Witnesses reported seeing the plane being chased by military aircraft near the airport. No ground structures were involved at the crash site. "I would hope it is for a guy like me".

Many passengers awaiting takeoff tweeted that their planes were stopped on the ground during the incident. I don't know man!

The plane was taken from a maintenance position and was not scheduled for a passenger flight, said Gary Beck, the airline's president and chief executive officer.

The governor of Washington, Jay Inslee, thanked the Air National Guard from Washington and OR on Twitter "for scrambling jets to keep Washingtonians safe".

There was no indication that the incident was an act of terror and no passengers were aboard the plane, the Federal Bureau of Investigation said in a series of Tweets.
