  • Maurizio Sarri says he expects Willian to be part of his midfield this season

Thibaut Courtois has told Chelsea that he wants to join Real Madrid this summer for family reasons, his agent Christophe Henrotay has said.

The Belgian, who had a strong World Cup in Russian Federation, has been strongly linked with a move to the Bernabeu.

"I want to speak to him before I answer these questions", said Sarri (via the Independent).

Henrotay told The Sun a firm offer for Courtois has been made by Real Madrid and that the Belgium global has made it clear he wants to join them.

Spanish giants Real Madrid have reportedly made a £65 million (R1.12 billion) bid for the 29-year-old winger, who is also being closely monitored by United's Jose Mourinho, who is a big admirer of Brazilian.

However, the club are yet to sign a replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo and the English transfer window closes in just nine days. Perhaps the best option would be to find a replacement and accept Madrid's offer.

With very little time to land a suitable replacement, the Belgian worldwide will be compelled to serve the final year of his contract at Stamford Bridge, with Chelsea prepared to let Courtois leave for free if they fail to convince him to sign a new deal. Veteran Robert Green has been signed by the Blues this summer and they have been linked with several other keepers, including Leicester City's Kasper Schmeichel.

'But this is a human decision based on someone wanting to be close to his children - and that is a reasonable thing too'. But Chelsea should understand the feeling of the player to live with his family and respect his request to the move.

The Belgian who is the first choice goalie has his heart set on a transfer switch to Real Madrid and asked Chelsea after the World Cup to sanction the sale.

Courtois' future at the club has been in doubt for some time now.
