  • North Korea says it won’t bow down to “gangster-like” U.S. on denuclearization

Leaked U.S. intelligence findings have concluded that North Korea does not intend to give up its nuclear program completely. 'If I paid attention to the press, I'd go nuts'.

China is North Korea's traditional ally and main trading partner, and is a key influence on Pyongyang.

"I have confidence that Kim Jong Un will honor the contract we signed &, even more importantly, our handshake", Trump said in a tweet, playing up the personal relationship between himself and Kim.

The ministry added: "We had expected that the USA side would offer constructive measures that would help build trust based on the spirit of the leaders' summit. we were also thinking about providing reciprocal measures".

In practical terms, Pompeo mentioned only that officials from both sides would meet on July 12 to discuss the repatriation of the remains of some United States soldiers killed during the 1950-1953 Korean War.

It fell to US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo to get the talks going last week.

According to Graham, China is using the north to force the USA to negotiate on trade.

The comments came after Pompeo had earlier Sunday in Tokyo brushed aside North Korea's accusation that the USA was making "gangster-like" denuclearization demands of the North.

And just hours after Pompeo arrived in Tokyo from Pyongyang on Saturday, the North blasted the new talks, saying they had been "regrettable".

"Their statement is typical North Korean negotiating style", Duyeon Kim, a visiting fellow at the Korean Peninsula Future Forum in Seoul, said in an email.

At the same time the U.S. state department was forced to deny reports Mr Pompeo gave Kim Jong Un a CD of Elton John's Rocket Man - a playful reference to Donald Trump's nickname for the North Korean leader.

In a speech on Sunday in Vietnam, Pompeo urged North Korea to follow the example of Vietnam, saying he believed Pyongyang could replicate Hanoi's path to normal relations with Washington and to prosperity.

"There's no doubt in my mind that it's the Chinese pulling a North Koreans back", Graham said.

North Korea calls talks with the United States "regrettable" while Secretary of State Pompeo says the discussions were productive; former US ambassador to the U.N. Bill Richardson weighs in on 'Sunday Morning Futures'. "But this expectation and hope of ours was so naive as to be gullible", the statement said.

Speaking in Tokyo after two days of intense discussions in Pyongyang, Pompeo insisted the talks were making progress and were being conducted in "good faith."

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, center, walks through the streets of Hanoi, Vietnam, Sunday, July 8. Instead, on Friday and Saturday he held talks with Kim Jong-chol, seen as the North Korean leader's right-hand man, on how to proceed with denuclearisation.

Pompeo said the two sides had discussed "modalities" for the destruction of a missile engine testing facility and agreed to form a working group to determine how to verify North Korea's denuclearization.

Frank Gaffney, who oversees the Center for Security Policy, says he is among those hoping that President Donald Trump succeeds in this effort. Why should the North Koreans make concessions to one of Trump's aides given the president's record of undercutting them?'
