  • Ohio lawmaker accused of ignoring abuse of Ohio State student-athletes

Republican Rep. Jim Jordan again disputed claims that he knew Ohio State University wrestlers he coached were sexually abused by a team doctor, and said an ex-wrestler making the accusations has sent him harassing emails.

Jordan attended a July 4 Tea Party rally Wednesday in Fremont, Ohio where he confronted the accusations and continued to deny that he was aware of the alleged abuse in Columbus. Strauss died in 2005, and it was ruled a suicide.

An investigative team from Seattle-based Perkins Coie (coo-ey) emailed Jordan directly - but inaccurately - in May. Four former Ohio State wrestlers have said Jordan was notified of alleged abuse by Strauss and failed to act.

This seemed to me as much as an admission since the kind of "everybody knew" locker room talk is exactly what Jordan's accusers say happened.

Jordan's spokesman repeated the denial Tuesday.

Jordan denies all accusations, claiming he "never saw any abuse, never heard about any abuse, and never had any abuse reported to him during his time as a coach at Ohio State", according to a statement from his spokesperson per The Dispatch.

A source in Jordan's office, who described the emails as " weird, seemingly unhinged", told ABC News the lawmaker received the emails on his personal account and they were turned over by his staff to Capitol Police for their expert assessment.

DiSabato, whose allegations earlier this year sparked the investigation into Strauss' tenure at Ohio State, called Jordan a "liar".

"He has not been contacted by investigators about the matter but will assist them in any way they ask, because if what is alleged is true, the victims deserve a full investigation and justice", Fury said. "It was a head-scratcher to me why he would say he didn't know anything".

"DiSabato has a vendetta against Ohio State", the congressman replied, referring to the former wrestler's long-running dispute with the university. Athletes from 14 sports have reported sexual misconduct by Strauss to the university.

Mark Coleman, who reportedly roomed with Jordan on more than one road trip while they were at the school in the 1990s, said there is "no way" Jordan didn't know what was going on.

Jordan, a former collegiate wrestling star, was an Ohio State assistant wrestling coach from 1986 to 1994. "It's just not accurate to say those things, that we knew of it and didn't report it". "Never heard of abuse", Jordan said. He said in an interview on Tuesday that he had confided in Mr. Jordan multiple times about "the way Strauss performed physicals on us".

The law firm Perkins Coie was hired by Porter Wright to conduct an independent investigation into Strauss's behavior. Some 150 people have been interviewed as part of the probe. DiSabato began emailing Jordan in April, and on Wednesday, Jordan reported the emails to the U.S. Capitol Police, describing the latest as "the last straw" to Fox News.
