Like most National Basketball Association off seasons, there will be endless speculation followed by Twitter emoji meanings and players tribune reveals, but at the end of this story, the free agency fans may be disappointed when LeBron suits up wearing Cleveland colors to kick off the National Basketball Association season. Sources say James is strongly considering joining the Los Angeles Lakers.

On Friday, Rich Paul, James' agent informed the Cavaliers that his client would be declining his $35.6-million player option with the Cavaliers for next season, meaning he would become an unrestricted free agent. James may still re-sign with the Cavaliers because they can present him with a five-year, $205-million contact, more years and money than any other team can offer.

The Cleveland Plain Dealer, USA Today, ESPN and several Cleveland television stations reported James will test free agency, making the move hours before Friday's just-before-midnight deadline. The star forward is another Southern California native who has said he wants out of San Antonio for the final year of his contract and that the Lakers are at the top of his list of destinations. Soon-Shiong also mentioned the possibility of other All-Stars like Paul George and Kawhi Leonard teaming up with James on the Lakers.

It is unclear at this point if an in-person meeting between James and the Cavs has been scheduled down the line.

LeBron James cautious about going to Lakers as lone free agent
ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski added his voice to the James situation and specifically the possibility of him with the Lakers. With rumors of Paul George re-signing with the Thunder , a huge wrench may have been thrown into the Lakers plan.

The Lakers appear to be the frontrunners to acquire James, who is not seeking elaborate pitch meeting, according to a report earlier this week.

Last summer's stunning trade of guard Kyrie Irving left the Cavs without a quality running mate for James, who was forced to carry a heavier offensive load throughout the regular season and playoffs.

Technically, James isn't a Rams fan, but when seeing how big of a deal this was at the time, the superstar clearly wanted to be in on the action since the city of Los Angeles had been waiting a long time for another football team. Last season's was $99.1 million, and this year's will be announced Saturday. James and Paul would have to work out discount shenanigans to make it work, which seems improbable. The center from Turkey will make $18.6 million in 2018-19. Even at the age of 33, James averaged 27.5 points, 8.6 rebounds and 9.1 assists per game in 2017-18.
