  • Giuliani says Trump could soon decide on Mueller interview

Mr Giuliani, the former NY mayor who now leads the president's personal legal team, said that Michael Cohen should release the estimated dozen tapes he had made in which he discusses paying women to cover up alleged affairs with Mr Trump.

It comes on the heels of a report by CNN Thursday evening that Cohen has said he is willing to testify that then-candidate Trump knew in advance about the 2016 meeting in Trump Tower.

He was referring to revelations last week that Cohen secretly recorded a conversation with Trump about payments to Karen McDougal, a former Playboy model who claims to have had an affair with Trump years ago.

"Businessmen listen to nearly everyone who might be helpful, and by the way, they make pragmatic decisions about how to make bad stories go away", Issa added.

President Donald Trump's lawyer, Rudy Giuliani, said Monday that he's not sure collusion with Russian Federation would be considered a crime, marking a sharp advancement of the President's longtime defense that there was no collusion between his campaign and Moscow.

"I think, largely speaking, Trump supporters are going to look at this and say, 'Oh, it's Michael Cohen covering for himself, he has the Clinton apparatus around him, '" Costello said. The former NY mayor said in an interview late Thursday with The Post that Cohen "isn't credible at all, and there are witnesses who know what he's claiming isn't true".

"This idea that he told Trump about the Russian Federation meeting before it happened is, to us, very much new news", he said. However, it was Trump's legal team that actually waived protections that would have allowed the recordings to remain hidden from prosecutors, a source familiar with the matter told CNBC last week.

Cohen is at the center of a federal criminal investigation into whether he committed bank fraud, wire fraud, and campaign finance violations while working for Trump during the election. Cohen reportedly says Trump greenlit the meeting.

Jay Goldberg, another former Trump lawyer, argued Friday on CNN's "Erin Burnett Out Front" that Giuliani "immeasurably" damaged his case against Cohen with the sudden shift in tone.

The meeting was attended by the president's son, Donald Trump Jr., as well as Paul Manafort, the former chairman of Trump's presidential campaign, and Trump's son-in-law, Jared Kushner.

If Mueller's investigation were to continue into November, Giuliani acknowledged that it could impact voters' decisions, but he said it could go either way. Donald Trump used a blocked number, other witnesses have told Congress. Trump Jr. Giuliani claimed Sunday the recordings contained no evidence that implicated the president in illegal activity.

'There's a lot there for them to investigate.

She noted that Giuliani called Cohen an "honest, honorable lawyer" on "This Week" in May. "How stupid and unfair to our Country", he tweeted.

During Trump's presidential campaign, his team denied any knowledge of the deal between McDougal and American Media, the parent company.
