Elon Musk In Hot Water Over 'Pedo' Tweet (NASDAQ:TSLA)

  • Thailand cave rescuer considers legal action against Elon Musk for 'pedo' comment

Musk, who has taken to Twitter in recent weeks to combat his critics, drew criticism this weekend after calling a diver involved in the rescue of a Thai soccer team a "pedo".

Vernon Unsworth, one of the key personnel in the rescue of the boys and their coach from the Tham Luang cave complex, later told CNN in an interview, however, that Musk could "stick his submarine where it hurts," and that "it just has absolutely no chance of working".

Unsworth says he felt "astonished and very angry" at the attack and told The Guardian that he would consider legal action. "Sorry pedo guy, you really did ask for it", Musk concluded.

The tweets were later deleted. "I have given vastly more to humanitarian causes".

Tesla didn't immediately respond to a request for comment.

He added the comments about him were an assault on the whole rescue team.

Since then, he has been arguing with people who accuse him of shoehorning himself into the drama and imagining hypotheticals in which rescuers had not deemed his hastily built submarine unnecessary and impractical. Twitter might keep Tesla in the news but it won't help continued improvements in production and product. "The submarine, I believe, was about 5 feet 6 inches [1.7m] long, rigid, so it wouldn't have gone round corners or round any obstacles".

In our view, your outburst at analysts on the March 2018 earnings call, your ongoing frustration with short sellers and the media, your June email exchange with the saboteur, and your confrontation on Twitter with cave diver Vern Unsworth each raised flags with investors. Musk had flown to Thailand and offered to assist in the rescue mission of 12 boys and their coach from a flooded cave by providing a submarine, but leaders of the operation declined his help.

On Thursday evening, she held a black tie dinner for him at the 2,000 acre Blenheim Palace estate in Oxfordshire-Churchill's birth and burial place.

Musk responded by saying Osatanakorn was "not the subject matter expert" and that he had been "inaccurately described as rescue chief" and should have been labeled the "former Thai provincial governor".

The volume of cancellation announcements on Twitter put Musk on defense, who issued a series of tweets. Musk's role in the rescue was initially unclear.

There is no indication the disparaging claim musk made to his 22 million followers is true.

"This is the most brand-damaging thing Elon Musk has ever done", said Mr Roger Kay, analyst with Endpoint Technologies Associates who follows the technology sector.

Mr O'Donnell said Mr Musk has fallen into a "hero worship persona" but has failed to live up to the responsibility that implies. Reuters could not reach Unsworth for comment.

Earlier this month, Musk said in an interview with Bloomberg Businessweek that he would engage with his detractors on Twitter less often.

Robert Drechsel, who taught media law at the University of Wisconsin, said if he were Tesla's attorney, he would advise the CEO to stop tweeting.
