It's not yet known what caused a plane to crash into a factory near Wonderboom airport in Pretoria.

A plane has crashed near the Wonderboom airport in Pretoria, South Africa.

The ER24 medical service confirmed the fatality. Reports say that there have been no deaths but there are 20 people injured.

Photos on social media showed the plane's fuselage broken, dented, and charred.

"Seen on Sunday morning at Pretoria's Wonderboom Airport‚ ex Rovos Air Convair 340 ZS-BRV‚" the caption read.

"There is smoke all over and paramedics are on the scene", eNCA news quoted a local police spokesman as saying.

Aviodrome wrote on Facebook that it was "hugely shocked", by the crash.

Emergency services said the aircraft crashed on Tuesday after it took off on a test flight from a small airport.

It had been due to fly to Aviodrome via east Africa, through Egypt, Croatia, Austria to the Netherlands.

Civil Aviation Authority spokesman Kabelo Ledwaba said its investigators were at the scene and would issue a statement.

The plane had the words "Martin's Air Charter" painted on it, which was a previous name of Dutch cargo airline Martinair.
