From season 2019/20, Amazon Prime Video will show 20 live Premier League fixtures.

"We are always looking to add more value to Prime, and we're delighted to now offer, for the first time, live Premier League matches to Prime members at no extra cost to their membership".

BT Sport has purchased the other remaining rights package.

20 matches per season from one Bank Holiday and one midweek fixture programme. The Premier League joins US Open Tennis, ATP World Tour Tennis events and NFL games, all now available to watch live on Prime Video in the United Kingdom, and at no extra cost to Prime membership. Sky, whose biggest shareholder is Rupert Murdochs's 21st Century Fox, has 128 games each season in the same cycle.

Amazon is no stranger to live sport.

The deal will run between 2019 and 2022 and it will come at no extra cost to Amazon Prime members who will also be able to watch a full highlights show from the Premier League every week.

If Amazon paid a similar amount as BT for 20 games, the league would generate 4.6 billion pounds from the sale of 200 live games in Britain, compared with 5.14 billion pounds for 168 matches from 2016-19.

This year's Wimbledon tennis championships and US Open Tennis will also be available on demand on Amazon Prime in the United Kingdom, the company said.

For Amazon, the deal is the latest example of its expansion into the world of live sports broadcasting.

The bix six clubs - Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United and Tottenham - managed to get the necessary 14 votes out of the 20 to agree that from 2019/20, any increase in the current worldwide rights package, will be distributed according to league position and not equally distributed between all 20 clubs as it has been up to now.

The groundbreaking agreement was announced by the Premier League on Thursday.

In a separate statement issued by Amazon, Jay Marine, vice president of Prime Video in Europe, said members are "guaranteed" to see the team they support.

"When the Premier League was formed in 1992 nobody could have envisaged the scale of global growth in the competition which exists now", Scudamore said.

The Premier League is easing into doling out fixtures to streaming video.

The online retail behemoth and streaming service becomes the first over-the-top streaming service to successfully bid for exclusive Premier League rights and joins pay-TV rivals Sky and BT in next year's line-up of providers.
