  • US secretary of state arrives in Riyadh for official visit

Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman said the Palestinian leadership needs to accept the peace plans proposed by the USA or stop complaining and that the Arab world has lost interest in the so-called Palestinian issue.

According to Channel 10, the comments came in a 27 March meeting with heads of Jewish organisations in NY. "It's about time that the Palestinians accept the offers, and agree to come to the negotiating table - or they should shut up and stop complaining", the Crown Prince said according to a report from Israel's Channel 10.

Bin Salman's criticism of Palestinian leadership was corroborated by an Israeli foreign ministry cable sent by one of their diplomats in NY.

Bin Salman noted that the Israeli-Palestinian peace process was not a top priority for the Saudi government, which is more focused on Iran's growing influence in the Middle East, The Times of Israel reported. "People literally fell off their chairs" after the crown prince made the reported remarks, a source told Channel 10 News.

Saudi Arabia now doesn't officially recognize Israel - although the two powers have a common interest in combating Iran.

Pomp-filled DC visit for French president, wife
The German Foreign Ministry was quick to back Mogherini, affirming that the Iran nuclear deal was Berlin's top priority. The comments come as a deadline looms next month for Trump to decide on restoring US economic sanctions on Tehran .

Commenting on the AME show, Saudi culture minister Awwad Alawwad - who initiated the event with his Egyptian counterpart - says: "It is a momentous occasion for Saudis". For years, Saudi Arabia has made normalizing relationships with Israel contingent on Tel Aviv's withdrawal from those lands.

Bin Salman repeated a common narrative, usually used to justify ongoing colonisation of Palestine which places the blame for failed negotiations squarely on the shoulders of the Palestinian leadership as opposed to the continued occupation, settlement construction and the opposition to a Palestinian state by large sections of the current Israeli coalition led by Benjamin Netanyahu.

Israel has hinted at clandestine ties with Saudi Arabia in recent years, stressing that the two countries share an interest in countering Iran.

Mohammed bin Salman and Trump's son-in-law, Jared Kushner, reportedly enjoy close relations.
