  • Six in Pennsylvania sick from shell egg salmonella outbreak

More illnesses have been reported in connection to a salmonella outbreak that led to the recall of more than 206 million eggs last month.

Nine states have reported illnesses: Colorado, Florida, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia, North Carolina and SC.

In fact, the CDC reported that eight people in Virginia had been sickened as of May 9.

At least 35 people have been reported falling ill from salmonella in nine states, leading to a multi-state recall of over 200 million eggs.

The outbreak is linked to North Carolina's Rose Acre Farms, whose eggs were distributed to restaurants or sold at major grocery stores such as Walmart and Food Lion. The eggs were sold under various brand names, including Coburn Farms, Country Daybreak and Crystal Farms. For Publix and Sunups egg cartons, people should check their cartoons for plant number P-1359D and Julian date 048A or 049A with best By dates of April 2 and April 3.

The outbreak has been linked to eggs distributed by Rose Acre Farms, a family-owned business based in IN that describes itself as the second-largest egg producer in the U.S. "Rose Acre Farms takes food safety and the welfare of our hens, workers, and consumers very seriously".

It said thousands of Jordanians took part in protest marches in support of Jerusalem and the Palestinian people. The protests are scheduled to peak on May 15, the day the Palestinians call as the Nakba Day.

The outbreak was originally announced April 16 and traced to eggs from Rose Acre Farms, which suffered three similar incidents in 1990 that left 450 people in three states sick.

Salmonella is a bacteria that can be found on the inside of contaminated eggs and on eggshells, too.

Of the 25 people for whom complete information is available, 88 percent, or 22 people, reported eating shell eggs before becoming sick.

Healthy individuals infected with Salmonella Braenderup can experience fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. "It's very hard to know that so they have to do a large recall". Eleven people have since been brought to the hospital for complications linked to the infections, but no deaths have been reported so far, the CDC said.

For a full list of recalled brands, consumers are urged to check the Food and Drug Administration's website.
