  • Mariners' Robinson Cano suffers a broken bone in his hand on a hit by pitch

DETROIT (AP) - Jose Iglesias hit an RBI single in the bottom of the ninth inning to give the Detroit Tigers a 5-4 victory over Seattle on Sunday after the Mariners lost standout second baseman Robinson Cano to a fractured hand. Cano worked a full count against Detroit southpaw Blaine Hardy in his second at-bat, then took an 88-MPH fastball off of his right hand near the pinky area.

Castellanos was hit by a pitch in the first inning and had his left hand checked before going to first base.

Healy's two-run homer off Michael Fulmer (1-3) put Seattle up 3-2 in the fourth inning of the second game, and Cano made it 6-2 in the fifth with his fourth home run of the season. Seattle is now 22-16 overall and 14-8 on the road. Mike Leake has not been that good for the Mariners this year, but he had a nice outing against the Jays as he allowed just two ERs on six hits and a walk while striking out six in seven innings of work.

The Mariners scored two runs in the seventh to cut the Tigers lead to 4-3 and loaded the bases with two outs in the top of the ninth, but Tigers closer Shane Greene induced a groundout to first base to end the game. He has a 2.70 ERA with a 0.90 WHIP. He hasn't missed a game this season and has played in at least 150 in 11 straight years.

Tigers reliever Joe Jimenez had a chance to escape the eighth inning, but he couldn't handle the throw from first baseman John Hicks while covering the bag at first on a grounder from speedy Mariners lead-off man Dee Gordon. The two unearned runs tied the game at 4. He gave up 10 hits and allowed four runs, all of them earned. Wade LeBlanc (0-0) of Seattle pitches opposite Jake Odorizzi (3-2). The Mariners have the offensive edge in this one and they have a big edge on the mound with Paxton over Hardy, who is making his first Major League Baseball start after 167 games out of the pen in his career. The teams were postponed April 8.
