  • Father-son duo arrested for cheating businessman with 'expensive NASA metal'

The police said that the accused was told by Virender Mohan Brar (the father) that his company could arrange for the sale of the item to NASA for around ₹375 billion after testing its genuineness.

In his complaint Narender alleged that he came in contact with a man who told him that "Rice Puller" dealings involve huge profits.

They tell the victims that the object will be purchased by NASA and DRDO for thousands of crores of rupees, but they will test it before buying and the testing expenses are to be borne by the seller.

Bhishma Singh, a deputy commissioner of police for the crime squad with the Delhi police, tweeted images of the men after their arrest. After that, the victim entered into an MoU with Virender Mohan Brar and paid Rs 87.2 lakh for arranging special anti-radiation suits to be worn by scientists during testing, fees of scientist, for obtaining chemicals required for testing etc.

The officer said police had also seized laptops, fake letters, chequebooks and an Audi vehicle. "They said tests were scheduled in Hapur, but could not be held as the place was "not conducive". This is when the victim realised he cheated by the so-called scientists.

The suspects, Virender Mohan Brar and his son Nitin Mohan Brar, had allegedly claimed they wanted to test the device, a "rare piece of copper plate struck by a thunderbolt" which had given it the power to pull rice towards it.

The "spacemen", however, were caught out when the businessman went to police complaining about them. The duo found success in convincing the businessman to buy the special metal plate called "rice puller" for $213,156 (£157,600).

After that the complainant again entered into a MoU with the company and paid Rs 51.1 lakh on different occasions for the testing of RP', which was scheduled in Dharamshala, Himachal Pradesh, they said.

Police believe that in addition to the New Dehli businessman, the father and son may have conned money out of up to 30 people across northern India.

Later, Narender realised that the "DRDO scientists" were working for Brar for just Rs 20,000. During investigation, the "RP" copper plate, anti radiation scientist suits of NASA and anti-radiation chemical stickers were recovered from the possession of the accused, the Joint CP added. "He said he needed seed money for this objective", joint commissioner of police Alok Kumar says.
