The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has elected Professor Kolapo Olusola Eleka as its flagbearer for the Ekiti governorship election which comes up in July.

He defeated his closest rival and former minister of works, Dayo Adeyeye, after scoring 1,190 votes.

Whoever emerges as the victor of the primaries among the three aspirants would be the PDP flagbearer at the July 14 governorship election in the state.

In the primary election, 2,086 were accredited for the election but only 1,968 were eligible after others were disqualified.

In a statement from his media office signed by Ike Abonyi, the National Chairman commended all those whose made huge sacrifice that helped to make the primary a success particularly Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State and his team who conducted the primary.

The Senate's deputy minority whip and the third aspirant, Biodun Olujimi, stepped down earlier for Mr Adeyeye, in order to brighten his chances of winning.

The CNPP said it was pleased with the openness and orderliness with which the PDP conducted its governorship primary in Ekiti state as it urged its members to not only emulate the exercise but improve on the level transparency.

This is as the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) cancelled last Saturday's gubernatorial primary election in Ekiti State.

The party also bared the secretary of the primary electoral committee as well as the agents of aspirants identified to have disrupted the process from further participating in the primary election in whatever capacity.

Governor Ayo Fayose's candidate, Prof.

"People want to take us through another round of economic slavery".

Both of them agreed that the process was credible and expressed their support for its outcome.

He, however, said the APC would give the PDP flag bearer a good fight for the Oke Ayoba Government House on July 14, adding that the APC is the preferred choice of the people.

The others, according to him, are former federal lawmakers, speakers, serving and former members of National Executive Committee, who are still members of the party and former governors. Kolapo Olusola-Eleka and the incontrovertible popularity of the PDP across Ekiti state, we are already standing shoulder to shoulder with the people as we set for a very robust, issue-based campaign in our inevitable march to victory.
