  • Police confirm active shooter at YouTube headquarters (updated)

The war of words played out Wednesday, as investigators here and in the Southern California towns where Aghdam lived digged deeper into the chaotic attack.

"Our family is in absolute shock", he wrote, "and can't make sense of what happened yesterday".

- The family of Nasim Aghdam appear confused by the shooting rampage and are trying to come to terms with it. But on Tuesday night, police said they have no evidence Aghdam knew any of the victims or whether they were targeted. "We are praying for speedy recovery of the injured and ask God to bestow patience upon all persons hurt in this horrific, senseless act".

Aghdam family last saw her on March 31, and they reported her missing on April 2.

When Aghdam's brother learned her auto was found in Mountain View, he anxious she "might do something".

Nasim Aghdam, 39, bought the 9 mm Smith and Wesson pistol from a shop in San Diego on January 16 - about 11 weeks before she targeted the company, unleashing chaos as employees were eating lunch, San Bruno police Commander Geoff Caldwell told USA TODAY. "It is believed the suspect was upset with the policies and practices of YouTube", San Bruno police chief Ed Barberini later told reporters.

Police said Aghdam had legally purchased a 9 millimeter Smith and Wesson semi-automatic handgun.

Police have previously said Aghdam went to a gun range before arriving at YouTube.

Her channel had more than 5,000 subscribers.

While YouTube is reviewing the incident in detail to increase its security around the world, it is uncertain if Google will be taking the same approach across all of its subsidiaries. They said a check of her license turned up the missing person's report, and they contacted sheriffs in San Diego.

Dozens of emergency vehicles quickly converged on the YouTube campus, and police could be seen on televised aerial video systematically frisking several employees leaving the area with their hands raised. She gave no reason but said she was its only member and the group had no assets. Aghdam was an animal rights activist with a heavy presence on YouTube and she believed that YouTube had recently censored her postings.

Officers spent almost two hours Wednesday at the Jackson Arms Shooting Range in South San Francisco, a few miles from YouTube headquarters. In one post she says: "Internet crackdown and filtering is increasing in the West". Range owner Jason Remolona refused to answer questions about whether Aghdam had been at the range, referring questions to San Bruno police.

In one video posted under her online name Nasime Sabz, she can be heard complaining that "YouTube filtered my channels to keep them from getting views!"

Juhea Kim, founder of the website, said she was excited to feature the story written by an Iranian freelancer about a vegan Iranian bodybuilder.

NBC reported that it was unclear how much Aghdam was making from her YT views, but SocialBlade estimates put her take at between $661 and $10,614 a year for her four YT accounts.

The woman's grievances against YouTube appear to focus on censorship and revenue. "And she had a problem with Youtube", her brother said. Nasim even went so far as to say, "For me, animal rights equal human rights", Aghdam told the San Diego Union-Tribune, in 2009. "Whether that rises to the level of terrorism hopefully will be determined in the next couple of weeks".

On Tuesday, authorities quickly confirmed that the YouTube shooting suspect was a female who died on the scene from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Meanwhile two of the victims, a 32-year-old woman and a 27-year-old woman were released from San Francisco General Hospital.

More than 1,100 people work at the YouTube campus in San Bruno.

He said two additional gunshot victims were found at an adjacent business minutes later. An officer armed with an assault rifle then entered through a security door, he said.
