Daniels was the best center in this draft, although Pace said the Bears will start him out at left guard, and nearly no receivers in this draft have had more buzz around them than Miller.

The Bears came into the offseason with a ton of needs.

"At 5'11", 201 lbs., Miller is a superb route runner with a nice catch radius.

According to NBC Sports Chicago via NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the Chicago Bears were in talks with an undisclosed team to find a way back into the latter part first round of the NFL Draft. Pace then went out and got center James Daniels and receiver Anthony Miller.

Which teams the Bears were in trade talks with remain to be seen. The stats aren't eye-popping (23 tackles, three sacks in his final season) and his durability does raise a lot of red flags, however, his swiftness and explosiveness would have warranted a third or fourth round pick barring injuries.

With a huge splash in free agency that included signing WRs Allen Robinson and Taylor Gabriel, TE Trey Burton and retaining his own star CBs Kyle Fuller and Prince Amukamara, he put an exclamation point on his commitment to building an explosive and dynamic Bears offense for the first time in decades and maintaining a top-10 defense. NFL analyst Lance Zierlein has this to say on NFL.com: "Daniels is a fluid mover with tremendous initial quickness to win positioning on most every zone block he's asked to make - both on the first and second levels".

The Chicago Bears welcomed seven new players to the roster after a successful 2018 NFL Draft class led by Georgia linebacker Roquan Smith.

Alabama's Calvin Ridley was reportedly on the Chicago Bears' minds Thursday night.

The Bears do not own a third-round pick.

The Chicago Bears trading up and getting Anthony Miller (courtesy of the National Football League website) instead is a strong move. He played outside and in the slot at Memphis. Anthony Miller has a chance to be one of three draft picks with a solid chance to become a starter right away. "The draft costs a lot, players cost a lot".

With the 39th overall pick, the Bears selected fundamentally sound Iowa lineman James Daniels, a promising 20-year-old who arrives with Hawkeyes coach Kirk Ferentz's stamp of approval. Several players took turns in making the defensive play calls last season. "We value his position versatility", Pace said. Our plan right now is to start him off as guard as his first position, cross-train him at center. After last season, the Bears chose not to exercise the $8 million option on 2017 starting left guard, Josh Sitton.
