  • Karnataka elections BS Yeddyurappa says his son will not contest from Varuna constituency

In a surprise announcement, Yeddyurappa had on Monday said Vijayendra would not contest from Varuna constituency against chief minister Siddaramaiah's son Yatindra.

The party feels that if it nominate the son of Mr Yeddyurappa it would give ammo in the hands of Congress to critise BJP which had always been opposed to the "dynasty rule" practiced in Congress. From Congress side, Dr. Yatheendra Siddaramaiah will be contesting from Varuna constituency. "Though there were other senior aspirants from the same seat, it had been a given that Vijayendra would contest [the] elections", the official said, according to The News Minute.

"The state Lokayukta's report of July 27, 2011 led to the removal of Yeddyurappa as the BJP's first Chief Minister in the south on July 31, 2011".

A Bangalore-based party leader, however, said the state president couldn't take such decisions.

Sources said the decision was announced at the penultimate hour to prevent the Yeddyurappa camp from causing any damage to the party before the nominations closed.
