Search giant Google has chose to appeal against a judgement from India's competition watchdog that found it guilty of "search bias".
Google, the core unit of United States firm Alphabet, did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
"We disagree with aspects of the CCI's decision, so we have filed an appeal and sought a stay on those findings", a Google spokesman toldReuters.
Murugavel Janakiraman, founder-CEO of Matrimony.com, which was one of the original complainants in the case, said the firm has also filed an appeal against the competition watchdog's order, despite the judgement being in Matrimony's favour.
Companies like Facebook and Google abusing their dominant position in the market is nothing new, just look at the Cambridge Analytica case that's been grabbing headlines all week. Google is learned to have filed the appeal against that verdict with the NCLAT on Monday.
In its judgement of 190 pages, the CCI said that Google had found to be taking part in search bias and because of doing so, had caused much harm to its fellow competitors as well as all those who use the search service.
Since Google has appealed the judgement, it could be until sometime in 2018 before the final outcome its determined.
The judgement by the Indian watchdog is the most recent setback dealing with antitrust for the most popular search engine anywhere in the world.
Before India, the European Commission imposed a $2.7 billion penalty on Google for favoring its shopping service and demoting rival offers.
The CCI commenced its probe on Google, its market dominance and abuse of power in 2012 after matchmaking website Bharat Matrimony and a not-for-profit organization, Consumer Unity and Trust Society (CUTS), filed a complaint against the search platform.
CCI found that Google had placed its commercial flight search function at a prominent position on the search results page to the disadvantage of businesses trying to gain market access.
