If you're anxious that Facebook isn't stripping away every last shred of your privacy, don't be.

Facebook has admitted the company has been secretly deleting messages sent on Messenger by founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg.

"We should have done this sooner ... and we're sorry that we did not", the spokesperson said. "We did so in full compliance with our legal obligations to preserve messages". The company says it has been removing Zuckerberg's messages from the inboxes of various people for several years. That said, it begs the question if the company is secretly deleting Zuckerberg's private messages, a feature that is now not available to other Facebook users. "And it's not enough to have rules requiring they protect the information, it's not enough to believe them when they tell us they are protecting information", Mr Zuckerberg said on Thursday.

News of Facebook's two-tier privacy system is damning because Facebook's official ideology has often downplayed the importance of privacy, and CEO Mark Zuckerberg has said "People have really gotten comfortable not only sharing more information and different kinds, but more openly and with more people". We want to make sure Page information is only available to apps providing useful services to our community. Facebook issued a comment on the deletion of some of Zuckerberg's private messages by referencing the 2014 Sony email hack.

Starting Monday, all 2.2 billion Facebook users will receive a notice on their feeds, titled "Protecting Your Information", with a link to see what apps they use and what information they have shared with those apps. "This may take some time", a Facebook spokesman wrote in an e-mail last Friday.

The agency later faulted that spaceship's builder, Scaled Composites, saying the design should have protected against human error. Data review to come, then on to the next flight. "Space feels tantalisingly close now", Branson tweeted after Unity's landing.

Until the forthcoming feature is ready for prime time, Facebook promises executives will no longer have the privilege of unsending Messenger messages. According to TechCrunch, the recipients of the now-deleted messages were not informed at any stage that correspondence they received had been erased.

Then, some users who logged in to Facebook through Android devices discovered that Facebook had been collecting information about phone calls they made and text messages they sent.

The U.K. regulator is in the midst of an investigation into the scandal, which saw data from Facebook users misused by political data firm Cambridge Analytica in the 2016 US election. Christopher Wylie, a whistleblower who once worked at Cambridge Analytica, has said that it worked with Canadian company AggregateIQ.

The Federal Trade Commission also is probing whether Facebook violated a 2011 consent agreement to protect privacy after data from as many as 87 million users, most in the United States, were shared with political consulting firm Cambridge Analytica.
