  • The Obamas reportedly will not attend Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's wedding

Kensington Palace revealed Tuesday the soon-to-be newlyweds chose not to have an "official list" of political leaders join in their marriage celebrations, instead opting for some 2,640 family members, friends and public citizens to attend what's sure to be the wedding of the year.

That means US President Donald Trump, former US president Barack Obama, British Prime Minister Theresa May and even Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull did not received a coveted invitation to the event of the year. "Her Majesty's government was consulted on this decision, which was taken by the royal household", a spokesperson for Kensington Palace said. The British government source said there had been no expectation from May's office that the prime minister would be invited.

While we don't know exactly who will be at St George's Chapel in Windsor Castle on the big day, details are emerging as to who won't be.

"It will still be a royal wedding and an important occasion", the royal source said.

The list included people who ran a wide variety of charity organizations as well as veterans from the armed forces who have suffered life-changing injuries.

It is said that the guests are long-standing friends whom Harry and Meghan have known for years.

Ex-Royal Irish Regiment soldier Philip Gillespie (pictured below), who lost his right leg during a tour of Afghanistan in 2011, said it felt a "wee bit surreal" to receive an invite in the post.

Teenager Reuben Litherland, who has been campaigning for deaf-friendly screenings at cinemas, also made the list.

Britain's Prince Harry and his fiancee Meghan Markle attend the United Kingdom team trials for the Invictus Games Sydney 2018 at the University of Bath in Bath, England, Friday, April 6, 2018.

The invitees will be able to watch the arrivals of the bride and groom and their wedding guests at the chapel and the carriage procession as it departs from the castle after the service.

Six hundred guests have been invited to the royal wedding next month, all of whom have also been invited to a lunchtime reception after the ceremony.
