  • Sentencing awaits 20-year-old mom who killed boyfriend during YouTube stunt

A 20-year-old mother from Minnesota was given just six months in jail on Wednesday for fatally shooting her boyfriend during a botched YouTube stunt last year.

Monalisa Perez, now 20, was asked by Pedro Ruiz, 22, to fire a gun from a foot (30cm) away, believing a thick book he held in front of his chest would shield him.

The bullet pierced the book, and Ruiz fell mortally wounded.

Ruiz will be able to serve her jail time in 10-day increments because she has custody of the couple's two kids. The clip was filmed by two cameras and the couple's three-year-old daughter witnessed the shooting. She was sentenced to six months' imprisonment.

A deadly shooting that started as a YouTube prank resulted in an official criminal sentencing Wednesday.

Prior to the shooting, Perez had tweeted: "Me and Pedro are probably going to shoot one of the most risky videos ever". Ruiz was holding a hardcover book to his chest in the mistaken belief that it would be enough to stop the.50-caliber bullet. She has also been banned from owning firearms for life.

She added: "They were in love".

Haspel has served in a number of undercover overseas posts, including as chief of the CIA's station in London and its base in NY . He was vocal in accusing her of a major cover-up of the 2012 attack on a USA consulate in Libya.

The judge gave MonaLisa Perez the opportunity to address the courtroom, but she said no.

She will also not be allowed to receive financial compensation for the recording of Ruiz's death or for telling her story about the fatal shooting.

Norman County Attorney James Brue said that "this foolish stunt was dreamed up, planned, and executed by Pedro Ruiz, and the defendant wrongfully and tragically relied on his assurances that the stunt was safe", the Star Tribune reported.

Family and friends said at the time that Ruiz had been talking about performing the stunt for some time.

She said: "He had told me about that idea, and I said, 'Don't do it".

The footage was never uploaded to Perez's YouTube channel, which has 25,700 subscribers and featured the couple's life and various pranks and stunts.

Perez accidentally shot Ruiz when making a YouTube video in late June 2017. In one such video taken at a fair, Ruiz talks excitedly about someday reaching 300,000 followers. The state has been experimenting with allowing judges to make the call, and The Forum joined with other news outlets in asking for access.
