  • Data row firm Cambridge Analytica's offices raided after court order

Elizabeth Denham, head of the ICO, sought the warrant after a whistleblower said Cambridge Analytica had gathered private information of 50 million Facebook users to support Donald Trump's 2016 us presidential campaign.

OFFICERS for the Information Commission have begun to search of Cambridge Analytica's central London offices after a High Court judge granted a warrant.

"We are pleased with the decision of the judge, and the warrant is now being executed", the office of the information commissioner, Elizabeth Denham, said in a statement.

Cambridge Analytica, a firm that has played a role in over 200 elections around the world, has been harvesting data from you and your entire network through Facebook. The data-mining firm faces accusation of lifting the Facebook profiles of more than 50 million users without their permission in order to manipulate elections.

It stems from claims over the harvesting of personal data - and whether it was used during Donald Trump's United States presidential campaign or the Brexit referendum.

Questions are also being raised about Cambridge Analytica's role in Britain's vote to leave the European Union in 2016.

Earlier this month Denham told a United Kingdom parliamentary committee that's also running an investigation into fake news that she hoped to publish her review of digital political ad targeting this May.

In a last-minute addition, it added funds to include the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) for gun sales. The Obama-era plan protects migrants who were brought through illegal process to America as children from deportation.

Facebook says the data in question was properly gathered a few years ago by psychology professor Aleksandr Kogan, who said he was using the data for academic purposes.

"The data and modeling Bolton's PAC received was derived from the Facebook data".

The investigation by the ICO is expected to intensify after they analyze the records and data held by Cambridge Analytica.

Meanwhile, Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg has been forced to issue a statement outlining his firm's role in the scandal and apologised Wednesday to its billions of users for the breach.

The news comes three days after Cambridge Analytica suspended its CEO, Alexander Nix, "pending a full, independent investigation".

He continued, noting that "we did not use any GSR data in the work we did in the 2016 U.S. presidential election".

Tayler insisted Cambridge Analytica "immediately" deleted raw user data after Facebook first raised concerns that it had been obtained outside of Facebook's terms of service.
