'No Collusion,' House Intel Committee Concludes

  • House Intel Committee ending Russia interviews

The House intelligence committee has ended its Russian Federation investigation.

"Perhaps some bad judgment, inappropriate meetings, inappropriate judgment at taking meetings" have happened, Conaway said, such as a June 2016 gathering at Trump Tower in New York City between members of the Trump campaign and a Russian lawyer, which "shouldn't have happened". They said the committee had conducted 73 interviews, mostly behind closed doors, and collected more than 300,000 documents. Mueller has indicted 13 Russian nationals and four Trump campaign associates to date. At that time, Democrats and Republicans on the panel agreed on a four-part framework for the investigation and pledged to work "on a bipartisan basis" to "fully investigate all the evidence we collect and follow that evidence wherever it leads". Democrats say that effort has fallen well short of gathering all the evidence.

Conaway replied, "Well it looks like it but like I said, 98% of what they did in the ICA we think is-the tradecraft, there is tradecraft associated with analytics and we think that was properly followed but just on that one about Putin's alleged preference for Trump, it was not supported".

The top Democrat on the committee, U.S. Rep. Adam Schiff of California, said the committee "has placed the interests of protecting the president over protecting the country".

The Republican conclusion gives Trump valuable political cover because it is the first congressional committee to support his repeated denials of any collusion with Russian Federation.

Further, even though there was no collusion found, Nunes said his committee has been investigating Russian influence for some time, but as far as collusion, "if we find something new we'll open it back up".

Democrats on the panel are expected to release their own report. That certainly seems to be the American electorate's position: The 2016 election turned out the way it did not because American voters loved Trump so much but because they weren't insane about Clinton.

In another true ensemble effort, tournament MVP Kyle Guy had 16 points, Hall added 15 and Ty Jerome had 12 points and six assists. He said it can be hard to transition from playing familiar conference foes for three months to preparing for an unknown opponent.

The Senate Intelligence Committee is still probing the matter. The House's findings contradict the assessment of USA intelligence officials who said Russian Federation preferred Trump.

"The American people want and deserve the facts, which is why Special Counsel Robert Mueller's investigation must be allowed to continue independently".

On Monday, the committee's Republicans finalized their report on their year-long investigation, saying they saw no evidence of cooperation between the campaign and Moscow.

"The bottom line: The Russians did commit active measures against our election in '16, and we think they will do that in the future", Rep. Mike Conaway, Texas Republican and one of the probe's leaders, said late Monday on Capitol Hill.

As far as his committee is concerned, Nunes said that "we spent 14 months on this investigation, looking for collusion".

The key here is to recognize the majority House Intelligence Committee report as a friendly and forgiving assessment of the Trump campaign's occasional intersection with the Russian effort to influence the vote.

Despite finding no evidence of the matters it set out to investigate, the intel committee uncovered serious abuses of government surveillance at the highest levels of the Obama administration.
