For Women's Day, 17 New Barbies To Honour Modern-Day 'Sheroes'

Aviator Amelia Earhart, artist Frida Kahlo, and mathematician Katherine Johnson were Barbie's selection of impactful women from history. She broke boundaries for Black women in mathematics by calculating trajectories for NASA, including the famous 1969 Apollo 11 journey to the moon.

Though Barbie has been around since 1959, she's seen multiple changes in her lifetime and has had as many makeovers and reinventions as, well, the average person.

"Ahh! I'm so happy to be honoured as a @Barbie Shero alongside these incredible women!" Pre-orders are being taken on the Barbie website, where each dolls costs $29.99.

With this launch around International Women's Day, Barbie aims to ignite a conversation about the importance of positive role models.

Beyond honouring Bindi, Barbie also reveals six one-of-a-kind dolls inspiring girls to believe they can be anything by basing the range of dolls on careers that have never before been occupied by a woman in Australia. In time for International Women's Day, they will be releasing a new line of dolls as part of their Shero program. To celebrate International Women's Day yesterday, the company announced 14 new Global Role Model Barbie dolls-including one based on San Francisco Ballet's Yuan Yuan Tan. The toymaker said it hoped the new models would "inspire girls to achieve greatness".
