Facebook said yesterday it would overhaul its privacy settings tools to put users "more in control" of their information.

To control who sees your personal information, experts say you should adjust your privacy settings. Facebook said that it also removed outdated settings that can make it confusing to know which of the user's information is being shared with third-party apps.

'Instead of having settings spread across almost 20 different screens, they're now accessible from a single place, ' wrote Erin Egan, VP and chief privacy officer, and Ashlie Beringer, VP and deputy general counsel.

The apps' Privacy Shortcuts page has also been simplified with "clearer explanations of how our controls work".

The new "Access Your Information" setting would also let users delete "posts, reactions and comments, and things you've searched for".

The Ministry of Electronics and IT (Meity) today said that a notice seeking details relating to breach of data from Facebook had been sent to Cambridge Analytica particularly with regard to reports in the media about questionable practices attributed to the UK-based firm in their efforts to influence elections. "This includes photos you've uploaded, contacts you've added to your account, posts on your timeline, and more", Facebook said.

The changes won't affect Facebook's privacy policies or the types of data it gathers on users.

Tel Aviv says the temporary site for the USA embassy will be inaugurated on the 70th anniversary of Israel's formation on May 14. Most countries do not recognise either side's sovereignty in Jerusalem and have embassies to Israel in the Tel Aviv area.

Facebook is also working on updates to its terms of service including "our commitments to people" and changes to its data policy "to better spell out what data we collect and how we use it", they say.

Facebook has announced a series of changes to its privacy tools as it continues to deal with the fallout of the recent data scandal.

Facebook's battered shares, which have dropped 17% in the past week and a half amid the Cambridge Analytica scandal, have gotten off to a strong start this morning after the company announced changes to its privacy settings.

All this data collection was therefore done with users' consent when they approved the app's permissions to access various elements on their smartphones - whether users realised the extent of what they were approving is another matter, though. Germany's justice minister said Monday that she wants closer oversight of companies such as Facebook after a meeting with its executives about the abuse of users' data.

In the United States, three congressional committees requested that Zuckerberg testify. "These updates are about transparency - not about gaining new rights to collect, use, or share data", the company said.

However, only a few months later Zuckerberg said in an interview with TechCrunch that had he been creating Facebook then, he would automatically make all users information public.
