"It is my hope that the legal process will hold them accountable and enable the change that is so desperately needed", Raisman said in a statement, per NBC News.

The Olympic gold medalist Aly Raisman filed suit against the U.S. Olympic Committee this week for failing to take action to prevent the abuse.

The lawsuit is the latest development in Raisman's campaign for raising awareness of sexual abuse in sports, which coincides with several other campaigns against sexual misconduct against women.

One example. Raisman claims USOC did not provide properly trained medical professionals to supervise Nassar's exams.

Nassar pleaded guilty to 10 counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct a year ago.

Raisman told CNN that after speaking with an investigator hired by USA Gymnastics in 2015, she felt threatened, and believed she would jeopardize herself if she continued to speak out.

Jacob Moore, a freshman at the University of MI and a former member of the US Men's Junior National Gymnastics team, alleged that when he was 16-years-old, Nassar performed acupuncture on his genitals and exposed them to a girl who was also a minor, when he sought medical treatment.

He also visited the home of Shivaraj Basalingappa Already, a farmer who committed suicide, at Mangalgi village in Bidar. He then applauded state Chief Minister Siddaramaiah for waving off loans worth "Rs 80 billion".

"Under his leadership, USOC has focused almost all its efforts on money and medals while the safety of our athletes has taken a back seat", attorney John Manly, who represents many of Nassar's victims, including Raisman, said in a statement. Kamerin, a member of the junior United States national team from 2008 to 2009, first described her sibling's troubling experience while recalling her own disturbing story, in which Nassar allegedly asked if he could "videotape" her during a procedure, during his sentencing hearing in January.

But the lawsuit alleges the USOC and USA Gymnastics "willfully refused to notify, give adequate warning and implement appropriate safeguards" regarding Nassar's "deviant sexual behavior and propensities".

Moore, who is now a freshman gymnast at the University of Michigan, joined his sister in a federal lawsuit Wednesday against Nassar, USA Gymnastics and Michigan State University, where Nassar worked. The USOC and USA Gymnastics, said John Manly, Raisman's attorney, conducted "a conspiracy to silence victims and cover-up the largest child sex abuse scandal in history".

CORRECTION: An earlier version misidentified where Jacob Moore is a gymnast.

Note: This article has been updated with USA Gymnastics' statement. Former president Steve Penny, named as a co-defendant in Raisman's lawsuit, resigned last March.

"My highest priority has been to push for change, so future generations of athletes will be safer".
