South Africa's injury woes show no signs of stopping as wicketkeeper-batsman Quinton de Kock has been ruled out for the rest of the ODI series against India, and the Twenty20 series that follows, due to a wrist injury.

Earlier, South Africa opted to bet first, with Faf du Plessis scoring his ninth ODI century. The sports channel of NDTV has reported that the South Africans were bamboozled by the two wrist spinners Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav and could muster only 118. Winning the toss, Indian captain Virat Kohli made a decision to bowl first.

With du Plessis still part of the dressing room despite his injury, this was more of a change in keeping with the pitch conditions on Sunday than anything else.

India achieved the No.1 spot in ODIs after defeating the Proteas at Kingsmead in the highest ever successful chase of 270 by six wickets. India won the match by 9 wickets and gained a 2-0 lead in the series. South Africa knew they had to dig in deep the moment Kohli inserted them in. It is tough to envisage that de Kock will be dropped just yet, but Klaasen's inclusion ought to send him a signal of the team management's intent. In the middle of the series, they had to appoint a new captain. Kuldeep picked up three and one wicket to Bhuvneshwar and Bumrah.

SA score 269/8 in 1st ODI against India
This ODI series is an opportunity for India to register their first series win against Proteas in South Africa . Despite media's criticism of skipper Virat Kohli for skipping him in the two Tests, Rahane has done a good job.

The next on the list of players caught in injuries is the wicket-keeper batsman Quinton De Kock. He ended up striking 11 fours and two sixes during his impressive knock, but it was not enough. They've got to stay on. David Miller was out for a duck, undone by a turner from Kuldeep to be caught at slip later the same over. Three wickets in the space of six balls crippled the hosts. Overall, the match turns out to be the biggest disaster for the South African Team and they all out in the score of 118 runs. By the halfway mark, South Africa had reached 95 for 4 with a lot of work left to be done. Amla uncharacteristically reviewed, but replays showed he had to go.

Only South Africa's Nicky Boje boasts better figures of 5 for 21 in Cape Town against Australia in 2002.

"There were a couple of soft options (shots), starting with myself, so I am going to have to lead from the front and do better going forward", Markram said.
