  • Former President Barack Obama right and artist Kehinde Wiley left unveil the Obamas’ official portraits at the Smithsonian's National Portrait in Washington

The portraits of former United States President Barrack Obama and former first lady Michelle Obama have been unveiled at the Smithsonian's National Portrait Gallery Monday.

Can you imagine for a second if George W. Bush, or any other former president, decided on a painter who was famous for depicting white people killing black people to paint his official portrait?

The post argues that the president's portrait is secretly perverted - and subtly hateful toward white people - on the basis of two sentences from a pair of years-old stories on Wiley's work. This artist beat out 2500 other artists to paint this portrait.

Amy Sherald, the artist who painted the portrait, discussed her own inspiration during the unveiling.

Obama said, "Thanks to Kehinde Wiley and Amy Sherald, generations of Americans - and young people from all around the world - will visit the National Portrait Gallery and see this country through a new lens".

It does because his Obama portrait is one in a long line of celebrations of the American presidency - and it includes some basic, familiar elements of portraiture.

However, the art installation of President Obama offers contrast.

Most notably, the face Sherald painted didn't quite capture the likeness of the former First Lady-with Fox News asking, "Is that really her?"

Australia power to T20 victory over England
But England got off to a dream start as Willey had danger-man Warner caught behind from the third ball of the innings on just two. Jos Buttler admitted they failed to soak in the pressure as they slipped to their second loss in T20I tri-series.

As far as the "kill whitey" claim, it is true that Wiley once created a painting that featured a black woman severing the head of a white woman, and did tell New York Magazine that it was a satirical riff on the phrase.

Barack Obama by Kehinde Wiley / Oil on canvas, 2018 / National Portrait Gallery, Smithsonian Institution. It was the picturesque background of Barack Obama's photo.

"And I know the kind of impact that will have on their lives", she continued, "because I was one of those girls".

"He and I make different sartorial decisions", he continued, a joking reference to Wiley's bold choices (he wore a black-and-white patterned suit to the ceremony). She is known for painting African-American subjects in gray scale and surrounding and dressing them in bright colors. "'I've got enough political problems without you making me look like Napoleon, '" he said with a laugh.

However, the portraits received mixed reactions online and the art community has leveled some scathing critiques. Her works stand in direct opposition to prejudice and discrimination while questioning contemporary definitions of identity.

Sherald, like the former president, spoke highly of Michelle Obama, describing her as "a human being with integrity, intelligence, confidence and compassion".

Art historian Paul Staiti says the Obama portraits - full of color and unique concepts - are fresh and exciting in a field of generally staid presidential portraiture. "My approach to portraiture is conceptual", she said.
