  • Former American beauty queen mysteriously woke up with British accent - but has never been abroad

While those disappeared after about a week, Myers said that she has been speaking in a British accent for at least two years now. After blinding headaches she has woken up with different accents three different times in the past seven years. When she woke up, she was British - but not in terms of her nationality or even her location.

Myers, who said she also suffers from Ehlers-Danlos, a condition that makes skin elastic and joints flexible to the point of dislocation, is now seeking treatment for her rare condition, with the hope of being cured. With such a rare condition, many people are quick to judge and label her as "crazy" or "faking" the fact that her speaking mannerisms changed so drastically after she fell asleep with a headache.

Michelle Myers, who has foreign accent syndrome, went to sleep with a headache and woke up sounding like Mary Poppins, she told Arizona's ABC15.

Doctors believe the unusual occurrence is linked to the severe headaches Myers was experiencing at the time, she told ABC affiliate KNXV.

She told the ABC affiliate in Phoenix that she suffers from Ehlers-Danlos, a condition that makes skin elastic and joints flexible to the point of dislocation; it can also rupture blood vessels.

Myers has seven children.

It's not the first time that her accent changed overnight. And though rare, cases of the speech disorder have since been documented around the world, according to the Center for Communication Disorders at the University of Texas at Dallas.

Her latest bout with FAS in 2015 allowed her to speak British accent.

FAS is extremely rare and usually appears as a outcome of a stroke, brain damage, and in Meyers' case, underlying medical issues. "But doctors aren't sure how exactly the migraines relate to foreign accent syndrome".

Because this is such a rare condition, treatments are also lacking. Talking with foreign accents have had notable effects on her well-being, as a crucial part of her identity goes through a frequent flux. I feel like myself, it's just it comes out differently.

She says it is difficult to listen back to how she used to be is hard adding that she really misses the way she used to say her kids' names. While it may seem like some kind of joke or invention for publicity, Myers swears that the condition she suffers from is very serious.

Awareness is slowly rising regarding Foreign Accent syndrome, but Myers continues to struggle.

She continued: "At first, they thought I was just joking around, because I am a amusing person. We just want to be taken seriously", she said.

"Some people think it's physiological; others think it's psychological", she told the station.
