  • Trump to Iran: 'The world is watching!'

IRANIAN FOREIGN MINISTER MOHAMMAD JAVAD ZARIF, in a tweet: "Iran's security and stability depend on its own people, who ... have the right to vote and to protest".

The Iranian protests have spilled beyond the borders as hundreds demonstrate in front of the Islamic republic's embassy's across Europe.

The officials said they believed conservative opponents of Iranian President Hassan Rowhani, a relative moderate within Iran's clerically overseen government, started the demonstrations in Mashhad, but quickly lost control of them. "Leave the country alone"; protesters are also seen tearing down a poster of the supreme leader. The president came close to making such a promise in a tweet on New Year's Day that began with "Iran is failing at every level despite the bad deal made with them by the Obama Administration" and ended with the exclamation "TIME FOR CHANGE!"

On the fourth day of the largest protests since an uprising over disputed election results in 2009, Iranian protesters chanted "Death to the dictator!" as they tore down posters of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who holds absolute authority in Iran. Authorities also reacted with force to the current wave of demonstrations - at least 21 people had been killed and hundreds arrested as The World Weekly went to press- but so far have refrained from the type of mass crackdown seen nearly a decade ago. "Be careful - there are lines one shouldn't cross", Mr Durov tweeted. Foreign powers long vied for control over Iran's natural resources. The great Iranian people have been repressed for many years.

Despite a billion dollars released to Iran by the United States, inflation is worsening and unemployment remains high among young people. It should underscore that the regime's economic mismanagement, corruption, and support for terrorism and Islamic revolution, which provoked sanctions, have exacerbated Iran's economic problems.

On Wednesday, Iranian state media began airing footage of pro-government demonstrations in cities across the country after a week of protests and unrest over the country's poor economy.

When asked how tougher USA sanctions would affect a wave of anti-government protests in Iran, Pence said present penalties against the Islamist regime were emboldening the people with courage to step forward. Experts estimate a smaller, but potentially more widespread turnout than in 2009.

IRANIAN AMBASSADOR TO THE UNITED NATIONS GHOLAMALI KHOSHROO, in a letter to the U.N. secretary-general: "Against the backdrop of continuous attempts by previous US administrations to disrupt the course of normal political, social and cultural life in Iran in the past decades, starting with the coup against Iran's democratically elected prime minister in 1953, the current USA administration has crossed every limit in flouting rules and principles of worldwide law governing the civilized conduct of global relations".

"That means it's not entirely clear what it means politically inside Iran, it's unpredictable". Lawmakers in both parties have also expressed support for the protesters.

"President Rouhani has nothing to lose by taking a bold step". Nevertheless, even if imminent change might be unlikely, "the idea of popular democratic opposition has been rehabilitated", Dr. Tazmini adds."The protests have offered a salutary warning that the system needs to adapt to societal change and popular aspirations".
