Donald Trump has cancelled his visit to the United Kingdom in February as a result of fears that his trip will be met with wide-scale protests.

By GCR Staff0 CommentsUS President Donald Trump cancelled his visit to London to open the new US embassy because he was put off by the prospect of mass protests against him, the city's mayor Sadiq Khan has claimed.

President Trump said late on Thursday that he had cancelled a trip to London because of the cost and "off location" of the new USA embassy in the city, where he had been expected to face protests. Wanted me to cut ribbon-NO!'

The decision to move the embassy from its historic location in London's Grosvenor Square was made under President George W. Bush and announced in October 2008.

In response to the cancellation, London Mayor Sadiq Khan celebrated the news, saying the USA president "is not welcome here". "Many Londoners have made it clear that Donald Trump is not welcome here while he is pursuing such a divisive agenda. And you got the message".

She tweeted after the Golden Globes , where Williams had been nominated for an award. He asked his primary agent, Doug Lucterhand, to push for more money .

However, in a tweet last night Trump confirmed that he will not be making the highly contentious trip.

Reports about Trump's visit to the United Kingdom have been circulating since the beginning of 2017, when May invited the USA president on behalf of Her Majesty the Queen to visit the country.

And U.S. officials have pointed out that the new embassy is just as close to the U.K. Parliament and other government buildings as the old site. U.S. government sources have hinted that Secretary of State Rex Tillerson would be the one to open the embassy. She also said it was "wrong" for Trump to share videos by the far-right group Britain First.

Aydin Dikerdem, a Labour councillor for Queenstown, said Mr Trump was not welcome in his ward. "Nothing to do with what would have been the biggest protests since the Iraq War", anti-hate activist Brendan Cox said in reply to Trump's tweet.

The US president, who has cancelled plans to visit Britain, was accused of being racist after questioning why his country should accept more immigrants from Haiti and "s***hole countries" in Africa rather than places like Norway.
