With the iPhone throttling controversy still going strong, the discovery of this information on Apple's "iPhone Battery & Power Repair" support page led to some concern that Apple could be backing out of its decision if a customer's phone didn't pass muster. This was after it was discovered that Apple were slowing down some iPhones with degraded batteries in orders to stop the handsets shutting down.

The company is already facing lawsuits from three plaintiffs in the United States who have claimed that Apple failed to inform them about the processor throttling and that such enforced slowdowns were unethical and deceptive - an attempt to force people into upgrading.

The replacement plan begins in late January for anyone with an iPhone 6 or later that requires a new battery.

When Apple announced it would replace those batteries for just $29 each, some were still anxious that their phones might not qualify for the fix.

The diagnostic test has been created to find out if the battery of an old iPhone is able to retain less than 80 percent of its original capacity. They are looking so bad, in fact, that a recent report from Taiwan suggested that Apple planned to cut its Q1 2018 forecast for the iPhone X shipments for 50 million to 30 million units.

For those unfamiliar, Apple recently admitted to limiting the performance of certain iPhones in an attempt to prevent the device batteries from shutting down without warning. At the time, Apple said it was extending the discount to any customer "whose battery needs to be replaced".

Apple did respond to a request for comment on the battery replacement process Tuesday.

The Cupertino, Calif. -based company said last week it has been using software updates to help prolong the life of batteries in the iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 6S, iPhone 6s Plus, iPhone SE, iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. The fund owned 54,751 shares of the iPhone maker's stock after selling 5,720 shares during the quarter. The rumor says that the tech company is planning to introduce the second generation of the iPhone SE during the first half of the year.
