  • Facebook using facial recognition to find photos you're not tagged in

Starting Tuesday, any time someone uploads a photo that includes what Facebook thinks is your face, you'll be notified even if you weren't tagged.

"There may be photos that exist that you don't know about", he told Wired.

Facebook will also notify you when someone else uses a photo of you for a profile picture.

The features demonstrate how Facebook is using a trove of facial recognition data, a type of data that has become a key focus for tech titans. If you set this feature to "off", Facebook won't be able to recognize you in photos and videos. So, if someone posts your photo to a private group you're not a part of, you won't get a notification about it.

According to Facebook's blog post, the idea behind Photo Review is to give you more control over your online identity by giving you more privacy settings to work with. The objective of the scanning, according to Facebook, is to alert you if someone has publicly uploaded a photo of you that you don't know about, especially if they are trying to impersonate you.

Merry Christmas? Not In Nazareth, Mr
And Clinton, a Democrat, entered office in 1993 saying he supported "the principle" of moving the U.S. But the claim is not recognised by the worldwide community or Palestinians.

Facebook is also introducing a feature that will help people with visual impairments; the company says that with the aforementioned facial recognition technology, people who use screen readers will know who appears in a photo in their News Feed even if people aren't tagged. "When photos and videos are uploaded to our systems, we compare those images to the template".

Unfortunately, the feature is not rolling out to Canada and the European Union where Facebook doesn't now offer face recognition technology. If you're a little sensitive about how often you show up in pics on the internet, Facebook has a new privacy tool that may interest you.

Facebook also introduced new tools to try to prevent harassment Tuesday.

Head into the settings and you'll find a new "on/off" toggle for Face Recognition.

"The words "face recognition" can make some people feel uneasy, conjuring dystopian scenes from science fiction", wrote Rob Sherman, Facebook's deputy chief privacy officer. "The person who blocked the original account is in control, and must initiate contact with the new account in order for them to interact normally". It's harder if the possible pool is more than a billion people, a.k.a. Facebook's entire user base.
