Nintendo Switch 64GB Game Cartridges Delayed Until 2019

  • Touching Satoru Iwata Tribute Reportedly Removed From Nintendo Switch

The Nintendo Switch console is growing in popularity, but one of its limiting factors is its cartridges, which can store only up to 32GB of data.

It seems like publishers may have some trouble releasing data-heavy Nintendo Switch games next year, according to a report from the Wall Street Journal.

Nintendo reportedly won't offer 64-gigabyte game cards for Switch until 2019.

There are some problems with the Nintendo Switch cartridges themselves.

Along with the wait for bigger cartridges, Switch owners may have to shell out more money for the games using bigger cartridges.

Nintendo Switch would have sold 3,178,100 units in Asia since its launch last March.

Right now you can fit up to 32 gigabytes on a cart, which of course is usually plenty - but games with large amounts of content or high-resolution resources are already bumping up against that limit. Currently, the max size of the Nintendo Switch cartridges is 32GB, compared to the 50GB Blu-ray discs used by the PS4 and Xbox One.

That's the word from The Wall Street Journal, which reported Wednesday that Nintendo is delaying delivery of the high-capacity cards until 2019 because of technical issues. I suspect option one is likely to be what most developers choose to do. In other words, games that require more internal memory might have to wait a little bit more.

While the Switch may miss out on certain games, Nintendo has a slew of titles planned for the system in 2018.

The Switch only has 32GB of internal storage, so 2018 is going to be a pain for managing game data if you don't have a large microSD card.
