  • Apple Apologizes for Throttling Phones With Aging Batteries Promises More Transparency and Discounted Replacements

The tech giant on Thursday apologized to customers after admitting it deliberately slowed down older iPhone models to offset battery wear, and said it will slash the price of replacement iPhone batteries to $29.

While a larger than ever iPhone lineup may seem at odds with Apple's history of offering a simple, curated selection of premium devices, there's little doubt this new direction has advantages.

Device use also affects the performance of a battery over its lifespan. Older batteries are occasionally unable to deliver necessary energy loads, sometimes causing the device to shut down, it said.

So far, the best-known target of that law - and HOP - has been printer manufacturers, but on Wednesday this week a lawsuit was filed against Apple over the iPhone slowdown, Le Monde reports.

Star shocks with Instagram Live 'sex' session
Clearly, she forgave him, as later that month, she accepted his proposal when he got down on one knee at her concert. Many have speculated this is the reason why Cardi took to Instagram in October to announce she was single.

"Each member of the Class had to buy a newer iPhone model because the performance of their older model had slowed down as a result of Defendant's purposeful conduct", alleges the lawsuit. Specifically, it's a failsafe measure included in all versions of iOS released in the a year ago meant to keep components from catching fire and to prevent random shutdowns.

While Apple's fix helped solve the issue of sudden shutdowns, the company acknowledged customers may experience longer launch times for certain apps or other reductions in performance.

Of course, when a chemically aged battery is replaced with a new one, iPhone performance returns to normal when operated in standard conditions. And, according to Apple, it has successfully reduced unexpected shutdowns.

A conspiracy theory that has been around for quite awhile recently turned out to be true - sort of - as Apple officially confirmed that it does indeed slow down older iPhones as the batteries age and degrade. Apple also will include a new feature in its next operating system update that lets iPhone users check the health of their iPhone's battery. The technique was first pushed out for the iPhone 6, iPhone 6s, and iPhone SE, but has since been released for the iPhone 7 generation of phones in anticipation of their batteries naturally aging, too. And overall, analyst consensus is still for Apple to hit about $86B in revenue for the quarter, the high-end of the company's guidance. Spokespeople for both companies spoke to the publication, with Motorola saying slowing down phones due to battery life "is not something we do". We are able to do the work we love only because of your faith and support - and we will never forget that or take it for granted.
