After iPhone slow-downs, Apple offers battery replacements - but it'll cost you

The tech giant on Thursday apologized to customers after admitting it deliberately slowed down older iPhone models to offset battery wear, and said it will slash the price of replacement iPhone batteries to $29.
While a larger than ever iPhone lineup may seem at odds with Apple's history of offering a simple, curated selection of premium devices, there's little doubt this new direction has advantages.
Device use also affects the performance of a battery over its lifespan. Older batteries are occasionally unable to deliver necessary energy loads, sometimes causing the device to shut down, it said.
So far, the best-known target of that law - and HOP - has been printer manufacturers, but on Wednesday this week a lawsuit was filed against Apple over the iPhone slowdown, Le Mondereports.
